See the Rare Yellow-Eyed Penguins in Their Natural Habitat

One of the best places in New Zealand to see the endangered yellow-eyed penguin (Hoiho) in the wild. Just an 8 km drive from our campground, follow signs to Moeraki Village, then take the well-maintained Lighthouse Road to reach the Katiki Point Lighthouse and the Penguin Viewing Hide. This is a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to witness these rare and shy birds as they return from the sea, especially an hour or two before sunset. Please note: the viewing area closes at 5:30 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. With incredible ocean views, native bush, and the chance to spot penguins and seals, this is a must-see for nature lovers and bird watchers exploring the Otago Peninsula.
